Spring Yoga Retreat

Deepen your yoga practice by joining Audrey Tan and Nancy Tan for an Iyengar Yoga Retreat at Land of Medicine Buddha. The weekend retreat includes yoga classes for all levels, group meditations, individualized instruction, and nutritious vegetarian meals.  The retreat begins with a yoga class at 4:30 pm on Friday and ends after lunch on Sunday. Space is limited; early registration is recommended.

Land of Medicine Buddha is a small, tranquil retreat center situated in 170 acres of redwoods in Soquel, California, just south of Santa Cruz, and adjoins 10,000 acres of State Forest. It is a perfect setting to relax and recover from the strains of life. Enjoy fine walking and biking trails, authentic Tibetan architecture, beautiful prayer wheels, and an inspiring meditation hall with seated gold Buddhas. Facilities also include a traditional Buddhist Temple in the enchanted forest, a library, bookstore, and sauna. All guest rooms have private baths and all meals are vegetarian and mostly organic. In order to develop the Buddhist practice of love and compassion toward our fellow beings, guest are asked to fellow the five precepts of no killing (even bugs), no lying, no stealing, no sexual misconduct, and no usage of intoxicants (tobacco, alcohol, drugs), during their stay.  For more information about Land of Medicine Buddha, www.landofmedicinebuddha.org .

Audrey Tan, co-director of Fig Garden Yoga Studio, is a certified Iyengar yoga teacher.  She is a graduate of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco, a premier training school for yoga teachers, and is registered on an advanced level (E-RYT 500 hours) through Yoga Alliance. Audrey completed the two-year teacher training program while apprenticing with Elise Miller, a nationally known Iyengar teacher and back care specialist. Audrey teaches an energetic and fun class, and excels in modifying poses so that they can be accessible to all levels of students. True to the teachings of Iyengar Yoga, Audrey emphasizes correct alignment of the body in yoga postures to minimize the potential for injuries and to maximize optimal energy flow.

Nancy Tan, founder and co-director of Fig Garden Yoga Studio, holds an advanced teaching certification through Integrative Yoga Therapy, an approach that blends the ancient tradition of yoga with modern mind-body disciplines. She is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500 hours) with Yoga Alliance, and has studied with many master yoga teachers including Rodney Yee, Donna Farhi and Gary Kraftsow. She teaches with love, humor and acceptance, emphasizing breath, alignment and body awareness. Nancy is also a licensed psychotherapist with extensive training in humanistic, transpersonal, and mind-body integrated psychotherapies. Over the last ten years, Nancy has led many wellness workshops that blend her expertise in both fields, including Stress Reduction, Sustainable Weight Loss, and Journey to a Healthy Heart.
