
Hatha Yoga is an ancient discipline for
the body and the mind. It has been around for over 4,000 years.
Yoga postures were developed to channel energy through the body in
beneficial ways, unblocking old holding patterns. Along with breathing
practices, it benefits the student physically, mentally and emotionally.
Some of the physical benefits of Yoga
include increased flexibility, greater strength and improved balance.
This in turn can improve performance in a variety of sports. When practiced in synchrony with breath,
Yoga is a form of meditation. The benefits to the mind include increased
clarity in thinking and greater ability to concentrate. Emotionally, regular practice of Yoga can
decrease anxiety and depression, leading to a greater sense of vitality.
It is an excellent form of stress management. Long-term practitioners of yoga frequently
find themselves transformed.
We teach yoga in the tradition of B.K.S.
Iyengar, author of Light on Yoga, who is recognized throughout the world
for his genius and creativity in the art of yoga. The Iyengar style of
hatha yoga cultivates strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, concentration,
and relaxation. Classical yoga postures are taught with an emphasis on
dynamic precision and alignment, aided when necessary by various props, making
yoga postures accessible to everyone. Our classes and workshops serve
students of all ages and abilities.
